Becoming a mother and experiencing motherhood have different meanings for each woman. This study presents the results of an investigation into scientific literature on the experience of motherhood from the perspective of the woman mother. This investigation consisted of an integrative review of qualitative literature studies published from 2016 to 2022, in the field of Psychology, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, in the LILACS, SciELO, PsycINFO (APA), SCOPUS and Web of Science databases. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data, and the discussion of the results was based in the Winnicottian psychoanalysis. The corpus of the study comprised 18 articles found in the LILACS and Web of Science databases, in the English and Portuguese languages. Studies were found on the subject from the perspective of mothers in affective-emotional, social, and cultural terms, although scarce regarding cultural aspects. In addition to presenting the perspective of women who become mothers, these articles had a common point: highlighting the importance of support to women who become mothers. This study gathers results from research of the field of Psychology, expanding knowledge on the subject.
