Adverse situations challenge parents to maintain care practices with relational quality that protect and promote the full development of their children. The phenomenon of parental resilience emerges in this scenario. A narrative review of the scientific literature was carried out to analyze this concept. Few studies were found to have developed definitions and conceptual elements for a consistent understanding of the construct. The primary literature on the concept showed that parental resilience is defined by the ability of parents to exercise and maintain the quality of parenting before adverse situations. This ability is grounded in a relational and systemic approach to personal, family, community, and social resources. Relevant aspects of parental resilience were identified, such as positive conceptions and protective practices focusing on the needs of children and social support. An understanding of these aspects can help to boost parental resilience in clinical and community intervention proposals, aimed at strengthening the families.
