This article presents an investigation carried out with Jewish grandparents who have grandchildren by adoption, which sought to understand how they built their families, since it is considered a Jew one who is born from a Jewish womb, making, in principle, the blood bond an important mark in the transmission of Judaism. Adoption, accepted by Jewish law, is not yet commonly done in this community. Interviews were conducted with ten grandmothers and three grandfathers. The methodological inspirations employed were Cartography and Oral History. Belonging to Judaism was part of the narratives through a Jewish identity that is multifaceted. Even when the family was not perceived to be linked to practicing Judaism, the grandchildren by adoption, for the most part, performed religious ceremonies, rituals carried out to strengthen values, such as continuity and belonging. An important factor in adoption is the realization of the children’s parental project. For Jewish grandparents by adoption, family ties are woven in coexistence and affection, wrapped and reinforced by the traditions of the Jewish people, their customs and values.
