PIMENTA, Luana Dias Santiago et al. PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF MINDFULNESS ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ANXIETY AND PARENTAL STRESS: A MEDIATION STUDY. Psicol. clin. [online]. 2024, vol.36, e004. Epub 03-Fev-2025. ISSN 0103-5665. https://doi.org/10.33208/pc1980-5438v036e004.
Faced with the existing professional, domestic, personal and relationship demands of adult life, finding oneself responsible for children can be a factor that increases stress and anxiety, despite all the love involved. The objective of this study was to assess whether higher levels of daily mindfulness have a protective effect on the association between anxiety and stress in parents of children and adolescents. The research was carried out through the completion by parents of an online form consisting of three investigative questionnaires on the subject: Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21), and Parenting Stress Scale (PSS). Then, a simple mediation analysis was carried out between mindfulness, as a mediating variable, in the relationship between anxiety and parental stress. A significant (indirect) mediation effect, and a mediation by the variable level of mindfulness equivalent to approximately 37.4% of the relationship between anxiety and parental stress were found. Based on this study, it can be concluded that promoting tools aimed at enhancing mindfulness can be a favorable strategy for reducing the perception of stress and anxiety in parenting.
