The Ministry of Health and the National Cancer Institute in Brazil developed the Smoking Cessation Program (PCT). This study aimed to evaluate the PCT results in the state of Santa Catarina regarding adherence, abandonment, and smoking cessation in a sample of 53,923 patients. It is a descriptive-exploratory health evaluation study based on PCT data from the state Health Secretariat. Data from 280 municipalities in Santa Catarina (95%) that offered PCT from 2016 to 2019 were considered. It was found that moderate adherence rates, from 50% to 80%, were predominant throughout the evaluated period, in 52% to 56% of Basic Health Units (UBS); low dropout rates, below 20%, presented the highest prevalence, in 71% to 76% of the UBS; and moderate cessation rates, between 60% and 78%, predominated. Compared to data from other Brazilian states and countries that carried out similar programs, Santa Catarina presented satisfactory results for adherence, abandonment, and efficacy (cessation). It is expected that data from this study will help to better the records, widen the availability of PCT and improve its indices of effectiveness.
