Abstract

ZAIDAN, Eduardo. Some notes on the negative Oedipus in Freudian theory. J. psicanal. [online]. 2023, vol.56, n.104, pp.223-239.  Epub Aug 23, 2024. ISSN 0103-5835.  https://doi.org/10.5935/0103-5835.v56n104.16.

The article investigates the apparent contradiction between the polymorphous perverse predisposition of the infant and its referral towards genitality. The existence of a counter-Oedipus is proposed. The sexuality of the infant is awakened by genital centered messages from the mother. The meaning of “negative” is referred to photography, to the inversion of lights and shadows. Freud’s theory of identification is debated to introduce the complete Oedipus. A metaphoric-metonymic derivation of the reproductive instinct is suggested. It is argued that the aim of the genital sexuality is the return of the ego to the mother’s womb. The negative Oedipus is elucidated by a desire of castration.

Keywords : Freud; Oedipus; castration; genitality; negative.
