AGUIAR, Ana Fátima; FLORES, Davi Berciano e RIBEIRO, Marina Ferreira da Rosa. From waiting to creating: Antonino Ferro’s narrative derivatives. J. psicanal. [online]. 2024, vol.57, n.106, pp.137-154. Epub 26-Ago-2024. ISSN 0103-5835. https://doi.org/10.5935/0103-5835.v57n106.10.
This article presents psychoanalyst Antonino Ferro’s ideas on the transformative potential of narratives in the analytic session. The analyst, through a waiting period facilitated by their negative capability, navigates the turbulence of the unknowable. Thus, patiently, narratives are co-created via intersubjective unconscious communication. Through reverie, the analyst accesses raw elements, word-thoughts in search of a narrator. For Ferro, the analyst needs to maintain a unison, a receptive, intuitive, and unsaturated state of mind: the here-and-now of the session. We understand there is consonance and continuity with Bion’s “Notes on memory and desire”, in the sense that the opacity of memory and desire favors conditions for the mind to operate intuitively. In the containment of analytical work, these elements can be transformed, and through word-thoughts they can gain (possible) new meanings.
