ZAIDAN, Eduardo. Contradictions of Freud’s second topography. J. psicanal. [online]. 2025, vol.58, n.108, pp.89-108. Epub July 11, 2025. ISSN 0103-5835. https://doi.org/10.5935/0103-5835.v58n108.07.
The article works on some contradictions of the second topography, such as: the existence of two unconscious, the somatic and the inherited; the absence of negation in the unconscious; the timelessness of the unconscious. In the form of primal fantasies, the notion of an inherited unconscious was already present in the first topography; the novelty lies in the somatic unconscious, which arises from a change in the theory of Freudian psychopathology, which now has psychosis as its paradigm, and no longer perversion. Psychopathology explains both the change in therapy, which includes the analysis of the Ego, and the new theory of anxiety, with its emphasis on realistic threats. Despite the importance assumed by the external object in the second topography, dispensing with intrapsychic elaboration implies abandoning the drive, which is one of the pillars of psychoanalytic theory.
