In view of the evidence reported in the literature that suggests a higher prevalence of symptoms of Common Mental Disorders (CMD) in Higher Education students, when compared to the general population, it is important to carry out studies that evaluate the factors associated with CMD in this group. This work aimed to investigate the relationship between social skills repertoire and symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress and signs of the Impostor Syndrome. 143 students participated, enrolled in technological and teaching courses at an institution of the Federal Network of Professional Scientific and Technological Education in the interior of Minas Gerais. Data were collected between July and September 2021, through the application of a questionnaire containing sociodemographic, occupational, academic and mental health-related information, in addition to the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21), Social Expression Multidimensional - Motor Part (EMES-M) to assess social skills, and the Impostor Syndrome Scale. Descriptive and correlation analyzes were performed using Spearman’s correlation test. As for the levels of anxiety, depression and/or stress, it was observed that almost 50% of the students are in the clinical category. There were also negative and statistically significant correlations between the frequency of social skills and the symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress, and with signs of the presence of the Impostor Syndrome. These findings were corroborated by other studies found in the literature, suggesting that a better repertoire of social skills can act as a possible protective factor against mental illness in Higher Education students.
