The Psychological Assessment of Children (PAC) is a pro cess that demands adequacy to its public. The purpose of this article is to contribute to the assessor’s task, presenting a tutorial on the use of the book “Ernesto”, by Blandina Franco and José Carlos Lollo (2016), as a complementary source in this process. Children’s literature is a playful resource that enables access to the experiential world through the gathering of subjective and objective data, such as socioemotional, cognitive and behavioral aspects. To present this proposal, it starts from a brief review about PAC, progressing to the socioemotional construct. Next, the tutorial focuses on the literary text, suggesting prereading, reading itself and postreading procedures, stem from definition categories, exploration and identification of verbal and nonverbal textual elements of the work. At last, it highlights the relevance of the investigation of PAC procedures concerning children’s subjective necessities.
