Abstract

SILVA, Dayanne Caroline de Assis et al. Beliefs and practices of adolescents involved in bullying and cyberbullying. Rev. psicopedag. [online]. 2025, vol.42, n.128, pp.168-179.  Epub Sep 12, 2025. ISSN 0103-8486.  https://doi.org/10.51207/2179-4057.20250022.

In order to understand the beliefs, values and practices that adolescents mobilize in the performance of roles in bullying and cyberbullying, and based on Freire’s assumptions of education as a social policy, a qualitative study was conducted, involving the application of a semi-structured questionnaire with 45 adolescents aged 10 to 14 years. The results indicated that 86.67% of the subjects had practiced, suffered or witnessed some situation of bullying, cyberbullying or both types of violence. In the reports of the adolescents’ experiences of bullying, prejudiced attitudes were evident, criticizing others for their appearance, way of being, and way of dressing, causing feelings of sadness, insecurity, depression, and self-harm. To support the design of educational strategies for controlling and preventing bullying and cyberbullying, the adolescents suggested addressing topics such as respect for others, ways to avoid bullying, ways in which people suffer from bullying, and what to do when they are victims. It is concluded that the construction of empirical, critical, and reflective knowledge by adolescents about the reality of these types of violence provides an attitude of autonomy and protagonism, not limited to revealing the problematization instituted in relationships between peers and the family context, but also proposing strategies to confront the phenomenon, with an emphasis on the collective construction of a culture of peace. These results seek nonviolent conflict resolution, with an interest in contributing to more supportive and constructive social relationships prevailing.
