This work compares the ideas of cruelty, as they appear in certain works in the Freudian theorizations, with the conceptualizations about the psychic apparatus formulated throughout the work of Sigmund Freud. These modalities of mental functioning are taken as possible explanatory paradigms, in which possibilities of the manifestation of the psyche in the clinic can be identified to open possible ways to think and analyze the modes of irruption of these categories. The study describes a case of a young woman, who arrives at the analysis with bulimic behaviors and in a deep submission to the mother figure, with whom she has sustained a kind of “lactation’’ throughout the first twenty-four years of her life. Based on the preceding theoretical formulations, the manifestation of cruelty in the maddening world of the patient is analyzed, and part of the psychoanalytic process carried out is developed.
