Abstract

GASTAL, Maria Luiza. Stretching horizons and tightening bonds between the human and non-human to stay in the world. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2022, vol.56, n.2, pp.27-41.  Epub Aug 19, 2024. ISSN 0486-641X.  https://doi.org/10.5935/0486-641x.v56n2.03.

The author suggests thinking of the environmental crisis based on some continuities, ruptures, and developments in Winnicott’s work regarding Freud’s ideas about the separation between nature and culture, and a masculine-centered concept of culture. She seeks to explore the question that there may be other possible ways of psychoanalytically conceiving the relationship between nature and culture, based on Winnicott’s ideas. Also, the author tries, briefly, to take a critical look at other cultures, radically different from our Western culture, in terms of nature and culture. Finally, she concludes by reflecting on the role of psychoanalytic thinking, given the serious crisis that climate change imposes on the continuity of life on Earth.

Keywords : Freud; Winnicott; care; climate change; nature and culture.
