The author describes psychoanalytically oriented efforts to deepen and apply understanding of the trauma phenomenon to the development of successful intervention strategies and treatment approaches that lessen immediate suffering and long-term consequences in children who have been victims of (or witnessed trauma) violence and other catastrophic events.
