According to the author, there was a need to face a troubled period in order to start a reflection on the working instrument from different perspectives. In this context, a specific aspect will be addressed: for decades, in Latin America, the working method was used as if it could be easily imported, without considering the peculiarities of the region. To exemplify this issue, technical, clinical, and theoretical examples will be presented.
