The author explores the claim that some mental conditions for accessing mystical experience can be part of the psychoanalytic experience. This approximation gives the psychoanalyst the possibility of using elements from the discipline of some mystics to think about the experience of the session, without this meaning equating the two situations, or understanding psychoanalysis as a religious or mystical attitude. This approximation did not go unnoticed by Bion, who went so far as to say that psychoanalytic facts can be adequately expressed by taking the experience of mystics as a model. In doing so, he uses it as a provisional construction to give meaning to the facts observed in the experience with the patient. Based on this methodological approximation, and taking as a model the notions of negativity, faith and experience of the unspeakable, which are applicable to the approach to psychic reality (the unconscious), the author takes up Bion’s contributions to situate psychoanalysis as an experience open to the unknown of each session. The purpose of psychoanalysis is not to decipher the mind, but to bring the analysand face to face with the mystery it represents, in a contact that does not belong to the field of discourse, but constitutes an emotional experience of transformation lived in the analytical relationship.
