ANTONELLI, Cláudia Cristina. The psychopharmacological dimension of the contemporary subject: pharmaceutical self and pharmaceutical life. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2023, vol.57, n.4, pp.75-86.  Epub 04-Nov-2024. ISSN 0486-641X.  https://doi.org/10.69904/0486-641x.v57n4.06.

Subjectivities are being constructed in contemporaneity in the face of psychopharmacological phenomena such as Prozac (from the 1980s onwards), resulting in pharmacological selves, which in their constitution seek the medication, sustained by the pharmacological imaginary, a current widely and deeply shared social dimension, as described by Janis Jenkins. The conjunction of pharmacological self and pharmacological imaginary culminates in what Ballantyne and Ryan call pharmacological life. Christopher Bollas assesses that the medicated experience of a psychic breakdown (psychotic or depressive crisis), without the subject attributing meaning to it through words, produces what he calls broken selves. In this article, the author will try to present a brief overview of this current complex subjective dimension, composed to some extent of and for psychopharmaceuticals.

Palavras-chave : psychopharmaceuticals; medicalization; pharmaceuticalization; subjectivity; pharmaceutical self.
