The author describes the founding historiography of Rio de Janeiro. She highlights the indigenous and African presence in the city’s constitution, and emphasizes collective forms of resistance in Afro-diasporic culture. Through the literature of black authors, the author criticizes the failure of Eurocentric psychoanalysis to consider marginalized populations in Brazil. She proposes a Brazilian psychoanalysis, which incorporates our epistemological and cultural matrices.
