Abstract

FERRAZ, Flávio Carvalho. Epistemological challenges for psychoanalysis. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2024, vol.58, n.2, pp.101-113.  Epub Dec 02, 2024. ISSN 0486-641X.  https://doi.org/10.69904/0486-641x.v58n2.07.

The author addresses the history of attempts to establish the epistemological foundation of psychoanalysis. He starts from Freud’s hypotheses about the scientificity of his discipline, which, to necessarily place it in the domain of natural sciences, borrows foundations from physics and chemistry. He concludes with the contribution of Laplanche, who seeks the foundations of psychoanalysis in Freud’s own work, making them coincide with the foundations of the subject himself.

Keywords : epistemology of psychoanalysis; metapsychology; object of psychoanalysis; enigmatic signifier; transgenerational transmission.
