CARVALHO, Vitor Orquiza de e FERRETTI, Marcelo Galletti. The elephant in the room of psychoanalysis and the exercise of scientificity. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2024, vol.58, n.2, pp.115-131. Epub 02-Dez-2024. ISSN 0486-641X. https://doi.org/10.69904/0486-641x.v58n2.08.
In this article, the authors set themselves two tasks. The first is to show that the problem of the scientificity of psychoanalysis is an “elephant in the room”: an obvious problem that is deliberately ignored, although it shouldn’t be. They therefore propose that this “elephant” be tackled head on. The second task is to argue that the Freudian conception of science has given rise to three distinct attitudes: continuity, which aligns certain ways of thinking with the central guidelines of the Freudian argumentative model; complementarity, which seeks to integrate or merge this model with other fields of knowledge; and overcoming, which seeks in other fields to refound the epistemological ground of psychoanalysis. Thus, the authors indicate these attitudes with the aim of showing that the problem of scientificity has accompanied psychoanalysis since its foundation.
