MINERBO, Marion. Primary mourning, psychic creativity, and happiness. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2024, vol.58, n.2, pp.135-150. Epub 02-Dez-2024. ISSN 0486-641X. https://doi.org/10.69904/0486-641x.v58n2.09.
The author proposes a theoretical-clinical study on some of the elements that make up the psychic aptitude for happiness. She starts with everyday vignettes that describe occurrences of happiness and then discriminates, explains, and develops the psychic functioning that makes them possible. She proposes that the aptitude for happiness depends on two very simple and, at the same time, sophisticated conditions from a psychic point of view: primary mourning, which makes us capable of loving something beyond the ego; and psychic creativity, which makes us capable of transcending the sensorial/concreteness of life to access the mental plane of existence. The ideas are illustrated by a clinical case. She ends by arguing that pleasures and joys only give access to happiness if they are integrated into a life that has meaning, that is, that is a genuine expression of the self.
