GURFINKEL, Decio. Maturescence: body, time and imaginative elaboration. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2024, vol.58, n.2, pp.151-164. Epub 02-Dez-2024. ISSN 0486-641X. https://doi.org/10.69904/0486-641x.v58n2.10.
In this article, the author proposes a study of the aging process based on the Winnicottian concept of imaginative elaboration. After a brief presentation of this concept, conceived within the framework of a very peculiar approach to the relationship between psyche and soma, he suggests extending its use beyond the situation of the baby, as Winnicott did, and approaching the entire developmental path of the individual, and in particular the aging process, from this perspective. To study this process, the author adopts the term maturescence [envelhescência], coined by Manoel Berlinck, which from his point of view encompasses very well the complexity of the psychosomatic transformations that take place at this stage of life, requiring both a work of the ego and a work of the self. These propositions are illustrated by a statement by the artist Gilberto Gil on his 80th birthday, in which he recounts his personal experiences and his existential and aesthetic reflections on the subject.
