Abstract

TANIS, Bernardo. Playing in psychoanalysis and the pathways to symbolization. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2024, vol.58, n.3, pp.57-68.  Epub Mar 28, 2025. ISSN 0486-641X.  https://doi.org/10.69904/0486-641x.v58n3.05.

The author seeks to clarify the Winnicottian idea that psychotherapy takes place in the overlapping of two areas of playing, that of the patient and that of the therapist, so that playing is not restricted to infantile playing, but is at the root of the complex processes of becoming, and as such is a constitutive element of any analytical process. He endorses the view that playing, alongside dreaming, is one of the two fundamental processes that promote the capacity for representation, symbolization and creativity - creativity understood in this context as the creation of the object world and of the very experience of existing.

Keywords : playing; symbolization; act; dreaming; creativity.
