The song “Beatriz”, composed by Edu Lobo and Chico Buarque, is considered by the authors of this work to be a particularly successful example of the symbolic transformation of an impactful emotional experience, compatible with the language of achievement described by Bion. The authors highlight and comment on the poetic and musical resources used by the composers to achieve this expression. They present some fundamental concepts of musical language, as well as Donald Meltzer’s theory of the aesthetic object, under which they organize their psychoanalytic considerations. They thus seek a mutual fertilization between psychoanalysis and music with regard to the work of symbolic transformation of emotional experiences.
