BRAGA, João Carlos. Transformations: a clinical perspective. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2024, vol.58, n.3, pp.171-190.  Epub 28-Mar-2025. ISSN 0486-641X.  https://doi.org/10.69904/0486-641x.v58n3.13.

This study was undertaken after the author observed that the theory of transformations, as articulated by Bion in 1965, has not received the recognition commensurate with its status as a crucial point in the Bionian theoretical framework. Despite the challenges inherent in understanding and reaping the benefits of this seminal work by Bion, it stands as an invaluable repository of his efforts to increase our understanding of the functioning of the human mind. The text is remarkably full of profound observations and practical proposals relevant to clinical practice. Over the last two decades, the author’s admiration for this theory has deepened, to the point where he now considers it his main point of reference in the field of psychoanalytic clinical practice. The way he applies this theory is summarized in a table that categorizes the various groups of transformations, complemented by clinical illustrations.

Palavras-chave : theory of transformations; groups of transformations; theory of transformations in clinical practice; Bion.
