Intolerance and fanaticism are topics of great value to psychoanalysis. In the intrapsychic dimension, such themes demand intense work from the analyst. After all, in these cases, one is close to negative dimensions of the mind, in addition to destructive aspects, when mourning for what has been lost (objects, ideals or dreams) is not experienced. How will the patient deal with such processes? In this paper, the author discusses the importance of trauma, which can lead to a lack of tolerance to pain. In such situations, the patient acts fanatically, in the sense of a rigid, saturated mind, which intensely opposes to others and to difference in general. To deal with such issues, the author initially develops ideas in the epistemological and ontological fields, examining psychoanalytic studies on intolerance and violence. The clinical vignettes, which highlight the posture of not grieving in the face of disillusionment, are dear to her heart, as they have helped her understand psychoanalysis in action in the psychic dimension.
