SELIGMANN-SILVA, Márcio. Specters of the past: dreamwork and the courtroom scene in post-dictatorship Argentina. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2025, vol.59, n.1, pp.263-283. Epub 16-Jun-2025. ISSN 0486-641X. https://doi.org/10.69904/0486-641x.v59n1.21.
The author examines the intersection of psychoanalysis, memory, and justice in the context of trials for crimes against humanity in Argentina. He analyzes how the dreams and testimonies of survivors of the military dictatorship (1976-1983) were incorporated into the legal process, challenging traditional notions of evidence and truth in law. The author Fabiana Rousseaux, with her book Sonhos e testemunhos: política do inconsciente e discurso jurídico [Dreams and testimonies: politics of the unconscious and legal discourse], is a central reference for discussing how dreams, as carriers of traumatic memories, can be seen as legitimate evidence in court. The author also reflects on the importance of human rights, memory, and justice in post-dictatorial societies, highlighting the role of the Mothers and Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo in the struGGle for reparation and recognition. He concludes that the legal system’s openness to oneiric and subjective testimony is essential for the elaboration of trauma and the construction of a culture of memory and justice.
