Growing old with quality of life is a worry for professionals of health area, and the institutionalization is an increasing demand. Considering it, this qualitative work investigated the quality of life perception under the perspective of elderly residents of a long-stay institution. For data collection a semi-framed interview was used and it was audio-recorded. Eight senior citizens took part in, being four male and four female. Data were analyzed through the Content Analysis of Bardin (1977), and the results were ranked in to quality of life, social relations, family support, physical activity, functional ability, spirituality and long-stay institution. Data are reinforced by the literature on quality of life, elderly and institutionalization.
