Abstract

PONCIANO, Edna Lúcia Tinoco  and  FERES-CARNEIRO, Terezinha. Family models and therapeutic approach. Interações [online]. 2003, vol.8, n.16, pp.57-80. ISSN 1413-2907.

The nuclear family is a model constructed in the history of the western society. Raising questions about this model brings visibility to other types of family configurations. We observed, through the history of family therapy, a relationship between the nuclear family model and the specialist`s intervention. In order to relate the different therapeutic practices to the diversity of the families, we traced a historical course. Based upon definitions of family of some systemic authors, we analyzed the speeches of family therapists interviewed in Rio de Janeiro. We concluded that the different perspectives should be considered for the transformations they bring about, thus redefining the therapeutic practices.
