This study seeks to map the psychosocial impacts of political violence on activists of the Brazilian Landless Workers’ Movement using the experience of three community leaders from settlements in the state of Alagoas. The theoretical elaboration of this research has as its main basis the propositions of Ignácio Martín-Baró about mental health in extreme situations, relating them to the peasant reality in the Brazilian Landless Workers’ Movement amid the advance of conservatism in Brazil. For this investigation, semi-structured individual interviews and group meetings were used with participants. The data were analyzed by Thematic Analysis, which enabled this study to outline how political violence affects the health of leaders and their daily lives, pointing out possible paths for psychology and its action in the face of sociopolitical issues that permeate the process of fighting for land in contemporary times.
