This study aims to identify elements for a possible definition of the knowledge core of psychology in its performance among multidisciplinary teams of primary health care of the Brazilian Unified Health System. For this, qualitative documentary research was carried out that analyzed 10 documents that address the insertion and/or performance of psychologists in primary health care that were published from 2008 to 2019 by the Federal Council of Psychology and/or the Brazilian Ministry of Health. Content analysis was used to evaluate the data based on two categories: “knowledge core area of psychology” and “the psychologist in primary health care: role, function, and activities.” As a result, the analyzed documents showed that the clinic is the most relevant element that can be called knowledge core area of psychology in primary health care. The clinic focuses on individual subjects and is open to listening to questions that affect their lives, unlike what the hegemonic biomedical model proposes, which characterizes it as expanded clinic. Psychologists who work in primary health care sustaining the practice of this expanded clinic in its essence requires the deconstruction of the private clinic that has historically characterized psychology. The knowledge core area of psychology in this context also involves working with teams to share the importance of listening to subjective issues that affect people seeking healthcare.
