Psychological abuse between couples, as it is subtle violence, is sometimes not perceived as violence. This study aimed to develop a scale on the perception of psychological abuse in a partner. For this, two studies were carried out. Study 1 had 184 participants, most of whom were women (56.9%) with a mean age of 25.3 years (SD=6.70; range from 18 to 62 years), obtaining the factorial structure of the instrument. Study 2 had 200 participants, the participants of which were also mostly women (69.5%) with a mean age of 23.2 years (SD=7.05; range from 18 to 56 years), which shought to provide additional evidence of the psychometric adequacy of the instrument by confirmatory factor analysis and convergent validity with ambivalent sexism. Results: Study 1 showed the suitability of a bifactor dimension. In turn, Study 2 corroborated the two-dimensionality of the instrument, evincing its convergent validity and good internal consistency indicators (Emotional Abuse α=0.86; Control α=0.93). Furthermore, this study also evinced the convergent validity of the instrument. Taken together, results indicate that the instrument can suitably investigate the perception of psychological abuse, bringing a new approach to the investigation of this type of violence against women.
