Abstract

SILVA, Leticia Oliveira da  and  PESSOA, Luciana Fontes. Children’s Emotional Regulation and Assessment of Satisfaction and Safety. Psicol. cienc. prof. [online]. 2025, vol.45, e274434.  Epub May 12, 2025. ISSN 1414-9893.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1982-3703003274434.

Studies indicate that emotional regulation plays an important role in favoring the psychological and social well-being of individuals. Thus, investigating risk and protective factors associated with it is fundamental. This study aimed to investigate correlations between children’s emotional regulation and the assessment of satisfaction and security in the neighborhood of mothers living in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. In total, 40 mothers participated in this study, 24 of which resided in favelas and 16, in other areas. A sociodemographic form, Escala de Avaliação de Satisfação e Segurança and the Emotional Regulation Checklist were used. Results indicated important relationships between the assessment of maternal satisfaction and safety and children’s emotional regulation. They also pointed out that mothers living in favelas had lower averages of satisfaction and safety in the neighborhood than those living in other areas. Such results suggest the importance of interventions in safety and in basic services as a facilitating path for children’s emotional regulation.
