Childhood constitutes a fundamental stage of human development, in which social, cultural, and environmental interactions shape the conditions of existence and enable the construction of the child’s relationships with the world. In this context, the present study aims to understand the perceptions of early childhood education teachers regarding gender. This is a qualitative research study, developed through the application of a sociodemographic questionnaire and the conduction of semi-structured interviews with early childhood education teachers from public schools (two institutions, with the participation of six teachers) and private schools (two institutions, with the participation of eight teachers). The data were systematized based on Bardin’s (2020) Content Analysis, covering the following categories: (1) doing gender in early childhood education; (2) the place of the body; (3) the locus of media and television; and (4) religion, state, and early childhood education. The results show that, although teachers recognize situations of oppression and violence present in everyday school life, they do not establish a correlation with an understanding of gender as a social construction, flexible and non-naturalized. The role of the media was highlighted as a determining factor in the reproduction of gender roles, while the absence of a secular discourse stood out in the face of religious references, which act as guiding elements of formal knowledge and interpersonal relationships in the school context. Finally, the study highlights the relevance of expanding the debate on gender and intersectional perspectives in schools, organizations, communities, and the field of mental health, as well as in practices that directly impact Early Childhood Education.
