Abstract

FARAH, Thais Lima; VITAL, Cleida de Lima  and  MIRANDA, Victor Martins de. Happiness and wellbeing: the use of cognitive-behavioral and positive practices for the pursuit of ideal human functioning. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2021, vol.41, n.101, pp.229-235. ISSN 1415-711X.

Positive aspects of human experiences are becoming an increasingly target of interest in the field of psychology. This is due to the advent of positive psychology, which intensified the investigations on the subject and allowed the understanding of its aspects in a much more scientific way. In this sense, this research is configured as a bibliographic review of literature, which uses several writings as a basis for discussions related to "ideal human functioning", starting from the theoretical and practical assumptions of positive and cognitive-behavioral psychology, to explain the possibilities that these approaches can provide in favoring the potentialities and human development. The results pointed to two guiding questions: "what does ideal human functioning mean? and "How to achieve ideal human functioning?". From these issues, the themes of "happiness", "wellbeing" and "satisfaction with life" were articulated and discussed and their implications for the achievement of this ideal functioning state; the role of "personal virtues" and "strengths of character" as drivers of personal development. In addition, some practical and theoretical examples of how this can be applied in different contexts of life have been exposed. We conclude that the techniques and positive theory offer great possibilities for transformation and there is also a need for further studies that increasingly strengthen the knowledge and dissemination of positive psychology.

Keywords : positive psychology; happiness; positive and behavioral techniques; wellbeing.
