HONDA, CINTIA MORINAGA y CHERIX, KATIA. Leaving the country: a psychoanalytic view about the expatriation process. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2023, vol.43, n.105, pp.238-246. Epub 04-Nov-2024. ISSN 1415-711X. https://doi.org/10.5935/2176-3038.20230015.
This article presents a bibliographical research on the topic of expatriation from a psychoanalytical perspective. The bibliographic research focuses on French authors. The first objective of the research is to contextualize the expatriation clinic, differentiating it from the asylum and exile clinic. The second objective is the investigation of the manifest and unconscious motives that lead to the project of moving to another country. In a third moment, the path opened by French authors who understand expatriation as a “messenger act” (Roussillon, 2008) is followed, to formulate the theoretical hypothesis of expatriation as an attempt to experience, through geographic separation, the psychological separation from the primordial object that could not be fully symbolized in childhood. Expatriation can allow, between comings and goings with the country of origin, a subjective appropriation of the act of separation in the image of “Fort-Da”, in a dynamic of presence and absence. The analyst follows the patient in a reorganization of investments in internalized parental figures to find a new place of belonging.
