The objective was to analyze the social images attributed to the adolescent in residential care, from the perspective of educators and adolescents in residential care. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive study with a quantitative and qualitative approach to the data. Five adolescents in residential care participated, of both genders, in the age group of 12 to 16 years old and five educators, of both genders, in the age group of 54 to 60 years old. A semi-structured interview script was used, whose content was processed by the de R pour lês Analyses Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires software for subsequent content analysis. The analysed content was characterized in three classes: 1) Institutional context, 2) Private aspect of the context and 3) Family as a risk context. The main results indicated that the social images (vulnerable, abandoned, victims, criminals) emerged from the educators’ report from the blaming of the family, seen as a context of risk. The social images that emerged from the adolescents’ report were more positive (dedicated, intelligent, cute, cool). It is understood that the apprehension of social images about adolescents in residential care can point to the elaboration of effective forms of action, capable of favouring the relationship between educators and adolescents in residential care and their families.
