SOWINSKI, Ana Paula Mori Branco et al. Social representations of weight bias among obese women. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2024, vol.44, n.106, pp.100-110. Epub 23-Set-2024. ISSN 1415-711X. https://doi.org/10.5935/2176-3038.20240011.
This study sought to understand the Social Representations of weight bias among obese women. The research was carried out with 14 adult women, with a BMI equal to or greater than 30kg/m2, selected using the Snowball method, who participated in four focus groups. The content was transcribed and analyzed using Descending Hierarchical Classification (DHC) with the help of the IRaMuTeQ software. The results showed that the experienced weight bias is characterized by the lack of access structure for obese people in the most varied social areas. The need for an in-depth look at the subject is evident, with functional changes that comply not only with the required health criteria, but also that enforce the rights of obese women. It is of paramount importance that areas such as health and work review concepts based on studies carried out on the suffering caused by weight bias.
