This article aims to identify and analyze, in historical perspective, the development of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in the Northeast region of Brazil. Interest in the origin and development of CBTs in the Northeast makes it possible to identify the socio-historical influences for the onset of CBT in the state and adds to the scope of national and global works with an interest in the history of CBTs. A bibliographic survey of printed and digital publications and interviews with psychologists specialized in CBT in the region were carried out. The role of teachers of higher education institutions in the region is highlighted for the development of the approach, the relevance of regional events for the dissemination of knowledge and the current consolidation of CBT as a clinical practice in the Northeast. It is understood that the expansion of CBT in the academic and clinical environment in the Northeast of Brazil accompanies the changes that have taken place at the national and global levels.
