BECKER, Ana Paula Sesti  e  CREPALDI, Maria Aparecida. Intergenerational patterns of attachment in the experience of parenthood. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2025, vol.45, n.108, pp.38-46.  Epub 07-Nov-2025. ISSN 1415-711X.  https://doi.org/10.5935/2176-3038.20250003.

Healthy parenting provides a secure attachment pattern for children to explore their environment, in addition to establishing dialogue, positive attachment and emotional support for child development. Therefore, this research aimed to identify conceptions about intergenerational patterns of attachment and parental involvement of heteroaffective couples. 10 participants were interviewed, comprising five couples who had at least one child between the ages of zero and six. The interviews were analyzed using thematic categorical analysis, with the help of the Atlas-ti software, whose categories were: Attachment in childhood and Attachment and parental involvement. The results demonstrated a process of continuity with regard to the affective displays experienced by couples in childhood and how they reproduce such patterns with their children in adult life. In general, mothers reported disciplining their children more than fathers, sometimes using coercive practices. In turn, fathers emphasized playful involvement and encouraging autonomy more than mothers. There was a discussion about the meanings attributed to discipline, parental involvement through play and basic care. It is argued that such findings provide an opportunity to recognize the processes of attachment and family functioning throughout the life cycle and intergenerational patterns.
