The study presents a brief history of psychology in South America and the insertion of psychoanalysis in undergraduate psychology curricula. Since the beginnings of Psychology courses in Brazil, psychoanalysis has been present and has a prominent position in the curriculum of undergraduate courses in Psychology. This event contributed and still seems to influence the choice of theoretical and methodological approach of Brazilian psychologists, especially in clinical practice. Bearing in mind the interest in knowing how the newly graduates, who underwent internships in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, conducted their activities, this research was carried out with the following objectives: to investigate the influence of psychoanalysis in the beginning of professional life and the search for continuing education in psychoanalytic clinic by newly graduated psychologists, graduates of a public university in Paraná. The qualitative clinical method of investigation was used with interviews, which were submitted to content analysis. The results culminated in two categories of analysis: "Entry into the labor market and reality principle: did I choose this?" and “Continuing education”.
