BATISTA, Jéferson Pereira et al. Online emotional schema therapy for university students: group intervention protocol. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2025, vol.45, n.108, pp.92-100. Epub 07-Nov-2025. ISSN 1415-711X. https://doi.org/10.5935/2176-3038.20250008.
The present research report aims to describe the effects of an online group intervention protocol based on Emotional Schema Therapy for university students in the context of COVID-19. The same protocol was applied to four distinct groups, involving a total of 18 university students, 14 females and 4 males, aged 19 to 44 years. Each group consisted of nine sessions: one individual session and eight group sessions, each lasting up to 1 hour and 30 minutes. During the intervention, high levels of emotional dysregulation related to emotional schemas and maladaptive emotional regulation strategies were observed, with evidence of emotional invalidation and suppression. However, throughout the course of the groups, participants experienced a decrease in the intensity of their emotions and changes in the repertoire of their strategies. Thus, it was found that incorporating components of emotional validation, cognitive reappraisal, and adaptive strategies to address the active emotional schemas in this context was essential for developing a more balanced relationship with emotions. Although few studies have used protocols based on online Emotional Schema Therapy, its feasibility and reports of positive results following its application were demonstrated.
