AIELLO-VAISBERG, Tânia Maria José; GALLO-BELLUZZO, Sueli Regina  y  FONSECA, Gisele Mirelles. The thematic drawing-and-story procedure in open-ended research interviews. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2025, vol.45, n.109, pp.223-231.  Epub 02-Feb-2026. ISSN 1415-711X.  https://doi.org/10.5935/2176-3038.20250022.

This study aims to present and substantiate the use of the Thematic Drawing-and-Story Procedure (PDE-T) as a mediating resource in open-ended research interviews, which may occasionally include an interventional dimension, within the context of the qualitative approach as currently adopted by researchers in the humanities and health sciences. Its relevance is justified by the fact that the integration of open-ended interviews with the PDE-T has demonstrated, in numerous studies, satisfactory heuristic potential, relatively easy application, a strong capacity to facilitate interviewees’ subjective expression, and the possibility of being employed under different theoretical frameworks. This exposition is organized into four sections. The first, introductory section addresses the importance of open-ended interviews in qualitative research, highlighting related challenges and solutions. The second section explores the integration of open-ended psychological research interviews with mediating activities, among which the PDE-T is included. The third section presents the theoretical foundation of the PDE-T, considering it both specifically and as an example of other mediating resources. The fourth section discusses its application in research as an investigative-interventional strategy. We conclude by asserting that the heuristic richness and versatility of the PDE-T, here regarded as a representative of other mediating resources, and invite researchers committed to qualitative approaches to explore its use.
