In adolescence, subjectivation continues to be influenced by neoliberalism, which increases demands related to mental health and risk behaviors. In this scenario, there is a need to investigate how adolescence is present in contemporary Brazilian public policies. This essay sought to critically reflect on adolescence in neoliberal times, its sufferings, illnesses and symptoms, tracing a historical line of public policies aimed at this public. The conclusion was that adolescents and their current problems require new paths and strategies that recognize their existence and guarantee their right to health and well-being throughout this journey. To this end, it is imperative to overcome the invisibility of this population in public policies, especially with regard to social inequalities and mental health.
