The present work is an account of experience lived during the stage of clinical psychology in a psychiatric institution, the work group psychotherapy as an intervention strategy with hospitalized psychotic patients. It aims to present the possibilities for mental health promotion of these patients, considering the characteristics of psychosis and the peculiarities of its management, as well as to contribute to the production of knowledge in Psychology. Four weekly meetings were held, lasting one hour each, with female patients in open groups, with an average of 24 participants. The experience allowed us to verify that groups is an important tool to aid in the reduction of symptoms related to the crisis, by increasing the individual potential of each patient and by stimulating the creation of social ties among psychotic patients. Throughout the practice, it was possible to realize the importance of technical and personal preparation for the professional who intends to work with group intervention.
