Thinking about fatherhood means going through history and social constructs regarding the definition of being a father and its responsibilities. The objective of this research was to analyze the Social Representation of pregnant and postpartum women teenagers in relation to the expected paternal role during pregnancy and in raising their children. The present investigation was characterized as field research, with a qualitative approach, which used the Theory of Social Representations as a theoretical basis. The information was obtained through interviews with pregnant and postpartum adolescents from a high-risk maternity hospital in Paraná. One can observe a prevalence of an egalitarian ideal regarding the care of offspring and domestic activities. The outcomes of the phenomenon of teenage pregnancy are intrinsically linked to the social context, education, support network and significance of motherhood for the group in which it is inserted and can take on different contours depending on where it occurs.

Keywords : Adolescent pregnancy; Paternity; Social representation.
