HORBACK, Andressa Aparecida da Silva y GARCEZ, Livia. Psychology and spirituality in the care of oncology patients: systematic review. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2025, vol.28, e029. Epub 17-Oct-2025. ISSN 1516-0858. https://doi.org/10.57167/rev-sbph.2025.v28.762.
This article aimed to present a systematic review of the scientific production on the relationship between spirituality and oncology, with the goal of understanding whether spirituality provides benefits to cancer patients. The research was conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses methodology, known as PRISMA, with searches conducted in the main databases. The descriptors “spirituality” AND “oncology” AND “psychology” were used, in both Portuguese and the respective English terms, covering the period from 2019 to 2024. After reviewing the studies and applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria of this research, ten studies were deemed eligible. The main results show that when spirituality is incorporated into humanized care practices, it has a significant impact on the quality of life and mental health of oncology patients, serving as a resource in coping with illness. It is concluded that the biopsychosocial-spiritual approach in the care of cancer patients is of fundamental importance, emphasizing the need for healthcare professionals to be trained to integrate these aspects into their daily practice.
