PAIVA, Carla Alexandra  e  FIGUEIREDO, Bárbara. Portuguese version of “revised conflict tactics scales”: validation study. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2006, vol.8, n.2, pp.14-39. ISSN 1516-3687.

The Revised Conflict Tactics Scales (CTS2) aims to evaluate the extension with the to what extent couples solve their conflicts through negotiation or abusive strategies (a) assault, (b) psychological aggression (c) injury and (d) sexual coercion. The Portuguese version of the CTS2 was administered to a sample of 551 university students (332 females), 45 both couple elements. It was considered the 5 factors for perpetration and victimization, recommended by the authors of the scale, that presented internal consistency rates between .78 to .50. Correlations between different kinds of abuse and social desirability, history of violent socialization, criminal history, dominance, and also the agreement in hetero-reports by both couple’s elements testify its validity. Practitioners and researchers in the contexts of psychology and related areas have now at their disposal the Portuguese version of the CTS2, which has in other countries showed its very high usefulness, particularly for the determination of prevalence of abuse in family settings, evaluation of intervention programs for justice purposes and epidemiological studies.
