BAPTISTA, Makilim Nunes et al. Convergent Validity and comparison of items between EDEP and CES-D. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.1, pp.140-152. ISSN 1516-3687.
This study aimed to find evidence of convergent validity for escala de depressão (Edep) correlating it with the Center for Epidemiological Studies of Depression (CES-D) and assess the difficulty of items using the Item Response Theory in both instruments. Participated of this study 146 college students, with average age 23 years (SD = 7.06) and 70% female, answered the CES-D and Edep. The results showed a positive correlation between Edep and CES-D with excellent magnitude (r = 0,75; p = 0,001). Even more, the comparison analysis indicated that items on both scales, the more endorsed symptoms were specific to depression, which was expected, considering that the sample was not clinical. Other results indicated some similarities between items by TRI, showing that both instruments assess similar constructs, however, different aspects of depression, indicating that Edep appears as a promising instrument for assessing depression in clinical and nonclinical samples.
