Abstract

VIEIRA, Carlos Eduardo Carrusca et al. Work accidents among Correios e Telégrafos’s workers and the incidence of mental disorders. Cad. psicol. soc. trab. [online]. 2024, vol.27, e210595.  Epub Mar 21, 2025. ISSN 1516-3717.  https://doi.org/10.11606/issn.1981-0490.cpst.2024.210595.

The work of the agents of the Empresa Brasileira de Correios e Telégrafos has enormous public utility. However, there is a lack of studies on the work situations they face and their repercussions for their health. This article analyzes the health hazards faced by these workers, espeically regarding mental health. In addition to a bibliographic review, a documentary research was carried out, based on the analysis of 626 reports of accidents at work related to occurrences registered in Minas Gerais, in 2017, filed by the state’s Sindicato dos Trabalhadores de Correios e Telégrafos. It is concluded that the health problems of workers result, above all, from robberies, falls, collisions with vehicles, dog bites and impacts against objects. Post-traumatic stress disorder stands out as the most frequent health problem experienced by workers and is related to robberies. So, measures to protect their health and safety are urgently to be elaborated.

Keywords : Postal services; Violence at work; Posttraumatic stress disorder; Worker’s health; Notification of work accidents.
